Many
companies are faced with the task of developing functional requirements
for a various Supply Chain Management systems and then follow up with
the evaluation available system vendors. Since this is not a regularly
occurring process within most companies, there is not an available methodology
and the process can be tricky. In addition, there are usually significant
business reasons to implement the systems as quickly as possible. This
presentation covered the use of a proven, accelerated process to select
a purchased Supply Chain Management system.

Avon
is the world's largest direct seller with sales of $8.1 billion and over
5 million Representatives around the world. Selling Avon products in more
than 100 countries, Avon Representatives earned more than $3 billion dollars
last year.
We
visited the Avon Products distribution center located in Glenview, Illinois
for a tour and presentation. This 350m square foot facility serves 140,000
Representatives in 18 states, covering approximately 1.1 million square
miles of territory. Processing 12-15M orders per day the facility utilizes
pick-to-light, A-frame (mechanical assembly), set tables, and some other
types of processing. Come see the state of the art dock sortation system
that was implemented last year as well as some interesting innovations
that are utilized in the facility.
