Re: Adjunct Professor Opportunities

This is an important announcement from one of the CSCMP Chicago Roundtable Officers, Charlie Slutz, who is a Professor of Aviation and the Director of Transportation Administration at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. Charlie also chairs our Education Committee for the Chicago Roundtable.

Lewis has recently introduced a new degree program. The Bachelor of Science in Transportation Administration is a modification to a long-standing program in Aviation Administration. Although it utilizes several of the courses from that program, there are eight new courses being introduced that reflect the expanded scope of the transportation field. Transportation majors will receive an introduction to logistics/supply chain management in several of the new courses and will be encouraged to pursue careers in those fields.

We have begun recruiting students for this program and now need to begin development of the first of these courses. I have developed and will be teaching a course called Principles of Physical Distribution in the spring semester in 2012, which starts this coming January.

It is now time to begin development of at least two of the transportation courses. The first courses that will be scheduled are Motor Freight Administration and Railroad Administration. This communication is a call for applications for professionals currently employed in those fields who would like to develop and teach a three credit-hour course at the Romeoville campus.

If you have any questions about the courses or the application process, please contact me at  slutzch@lewisu.edu.

Respectfully,
Charles S. Slutz, Professor of Aviation and Director of Transportation Administration
Lewis University

NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CSCMP Chicago Roundtable-WERC – December 2010

Greg Javor, the senior vice president of logistics for Starbucks Coffee Company, provided a thought-provoking and fascinating look at his company’s supply chain during the CSCMP Chicago Roundtable-WERC gathering on December 2 in Oak Brook.

Starbucks CEO Mr Javor

The event also helped collect many toys and cash donations for Toys for Tots.

The Chicago Roundtable Officers thank Mr. Javor for his contributions, as well as to all of the 75 attendees that joined us last night for a tremendous event. We love seeing a full house at Chicago Roundtable events! Thank you also to our partners at WERC.

All who attended not only enjoyed learning about Starbucks’ supply chain challenges and plans, but enjoyed some valuable business networking.

Loaves and Fishes Needs Help Planning a Move

This is a request for logistics help from the Loaves & Fishes Community Food Pantry in Naperville.

As a non-profit organization that has served Chicagoland for more than 25 years, Loaves & Fishes has expanded its services to a point where it now serves between 5,000 and 6,000 people each month.

The numbers keep growing, putting a strain on the organization’s two 4,000-square-foot facilities. This is why Loaves & Fishes are looking for help from one of you.

The organization is planning a move into a single building (very close to the existing facility in central Naperville) in early 2011, and would like assistance from a local logistics professional to help plan the move.

Their needs include:

  • Develop a plan to move all of the office equipment, computer systems, racking and supplies from the old warehouse to the new one.
  • Help setting up new shelving for the food distribution center and new coolers.
  • Attempt to minimize the time that L&F will not be operational to serve the public.
